The Laugh Lounge is a really nice change from uptown's packed-in sardine-case rooms uptown. I suppose the management of the Laugh Lounge would love to pack 'em in like their uptown cousins, but perhaps the clientele simply isn't venturing down to the lower east side in enough numbers just yet.
The lounge is upstairs at street level and the performance room is downstairs. The lounge includes one bar and a full set of rest rooms. A full set, in NYC terms, is a men's room, a ladies room, and you guessed it, a unisex room for all the unisexers out there.
You do get a good comedy bang for your buck here. We saw four comics for our 2 drink minimum plus cover charge. They were funny enough.
Management and staff were very nice and accomodating our disabled companions; a nice touch for which we were very grateful.
For those who want to put their toes into a taste of an evening on the lower east side, a trip to the Laugh Lounge is a good event "in the middle". Have dinner in one of the top class restaurants, then go to the Laugh Lounge and cap it off with an late drink at one of the many lounge choices in the neighborhood.
The Laugh Lounge is located at 151 Essex Street in the lower east
side of New York City. |
